  1. “Break Your Back” is a headbanger’s delight and my all time favorite Zoetrope song. It’s a fast Motorhead style boogie monster with killer blue collar lyrics about busting your ass just trying to survive. There’s a frantic lead break that stops on a dime for everyone to yell “Break Your Back” before the mayhem starts up again.

  3. Zoetrope (pronounced e-trope), was actually a metal band, but deserves recognition within the Chi Punk Archives because they were active participants in the mid- to late 80's hardcore scene. Not to mention that a couple of the band members were regulars at the old punk club, O'Banion'blizasrapowealucbilicuagulboode.coinfo band was influenced by the likes of 7 Seconds, Articles of Faith, Rights of the Accused, Life Sentence.
  4. Songs like "Break Your Back", "Trip Wires" and the title track thrash it out, while "Member In A Gang" and "Creatures" show the great mid-tempo songwriting Zoetrope was able to do without straying too far from their thrash roots. This slower style was less prominent on their second album "Life Of Crime". The standout song has to be "Mercenary".

  8. This dirty streak continues, as "Break Your Back" only sounds a few notes away from the iconic "Ace of Spades", albeit more of a US, blue collar steel mill take. "Another Chance" has a solid rock & roll riff for the verse, and then a nice, grinding bridge with some of Stern's best vocals on the album.
